San Francisco

After a long, long day in Oakland/Berkeley, roasting in the sun at the game, playing full-contact tennis, exploring liberal college campuses, we had a nice long night's rest and took our time getting into San Francisco the next morning. We had all day to get to the game at 7 pm, so we explored the city quite a bit. First, you gotta get on the bridge.

Yep, the Bay Bridge, the very one that famously collapsed during the big earthquake in 1989. A little spooky driving on that thing.

The famous Transamerica Pyramid!

Chinatown!

Trolley time! I sing the Rice-a-Roni song every time I see this picture.

The very, very southern end of Lombard Street, which will look more familiar on the next picture.

You could rent those little yellow cars strictly for the purpose of driving down this wicked avenue. We did not.

The Rock!

Alcatraz!! I so, SO wanted to go to there, but you had to buy tickets in advance, and when I realized that, they were already sold out on that day. Doh.

Golden Gate!

We made our way up and onto the bridge, which is one hell of a hike. Man. Good thing we had the time. Pretty sweet trip, though.

Great hazy view from the bridge!

Downtown.

The rock again.

*AND* tragic. As if fatal was a joyous consequence?

After leaving the bridge, we made our way to the ballpark, very briefly driving on the 101 in town. Damon Castillo Band song reference!! Sadly, we did not have time for a side-trip to San Luis Obispo.

On the street, I noticed as we passed this music venue that it was a place Dave Matthews Band once played!

AT&T Park!

Because of course we're in San Francisco!

Literally, Hooters girls describing the strikeout scoring system.

Tim Lincecum!

Box Score Research: Lincecum went 7 innings, giving up 3 runs and striking out 7, not all-star numbers but solid. Good game! The Reds tied it up with 2 in the 8th and blew it open with 5 runs in the 9th, including 4 runs (only 1 earned!) off of super star closer Brian Wilson, with help from 2 errors and a wild pitch (not from Wilson). They took the game 10-5, including 5 unearned runs! Former Phillie Scott Rolen had a double for the Reds, and former Phillie Laynce Nix had 3 RBI for the winning team, too.

And then we bagged it pretty quickly at the same hotel we stayed in on the way to Oakland, because we were still pretty beat after hiking around all day. And then it was back to LA for game 4.

On to Anaheim...
