Game 8 vs Franklin - 6/12/06

The gap keeps getting larger between the haves and have-nots. Statistically speaking, we're not out of the playoffs yet. But we are. So let's have some fun for our remaining five games. Never played a position you want to try? Let me know.

It was a rough week for people not being able to make it, and throw in some poor coach-player communication and we played both games at least partially short. We also had a few folks play positions they'd not ever played (on our team). We had 9 in the field the whole game against Franklin and despite a valiant effort in the first 3 innings (we were only down 3-1), their bats came alive and crushed us with 9,4,5 & 4-run innings the last four. We also completely forgot how to hit the ball and went 9-for-29 the whole game, which is about .310 and over 200 points lower than our season batting average. Three players had 7 of those hits, which means the other 6 managed a total of two. Ryan led off in our first inning, got a hit and scored, and that was the last time anyone got to the plate. It was rough. We set season lows in almost every offensive category, and it was only the second time in 6 seasons that we only managed 1 run. The last time? Against Franklin in 2001. We also hit into only our 3rd double play of the season. And Franklin has a bunch of pricks.

Highlights? Hmm. Well, Ryan is now batting over .900 as he has gone 14-for-15 in 4 games and reached base every time. I couldn't quite catch a pop single to center field against Franklin but their runner was slow and I was able to force her out at 1st from center, which was kind of a cool little personal moment. :-) Amy had one of the most awesome plays of the year when she fielded a tough grounder at short stop and tossed to Kristen at 2nd for a force, with a *no-look, behind-the-back* shuffle. It was righteous.

Muchos, muchos kudos to Elise for stepping up and pitching both games this week, and she did a damn fine job. Also to Joe for getting back to his roots and playing 3rd base both games, and making some sweet plays there as well.
