Loss | 10-11 (2-5)
So, Franklin lost twice and is not in 1st place anymore, and Daily News won and increased the gap between the playoffs and us. We're still not dead but we better spike up the EKG pretty soon. And we lost by one again.
I'm not sure how we keep losing these close games, but somewhere Satan was smiling on 6/6/06 when it happened again. We had a pretty good rally after giving up a big 5-run inning in the 2nd to tie it up at 8 in the 6th briefly before they got 2 more. We got those 2 back in the 7th but they had the meat of their lineup coming to the plate in the bottom of the inning, when their 1st up got a double. Todd got the next 2 guys to pop straight up so they had a guy on 2nd with 2 outs and their captain (not a power hitter) up. He got a really good swing at the ball and had a solid base hit and we gave it a shot but their dude scored without much of a play at the plate to end the game. I don't have the book with me, but I know we scored at least a run in every inning except one, but we also never scored more than 2 runs at a time and thus couldn't ever break it open with a big inning.
Some highlights as I remember them : Waldron making all 3 outs by himself in the first inning with 3 catches in the outfield. Todd and Kristen saving a couple of runs with the bases loaded by getting two batters to hit ground balls to the pitcher, with Todd then going back to Kristen for 2 straight outs at home (one force and one force that ended up a tag). I had a fairly cheap long fly ball home run directly followed by a monstrous highlight-worthy home run by Todd (in his 3rd straight game) though unfortunately they were both solo shots.
