Game 5 vs PBJ - 5/23/06

We haven't missed the playoffs yet... 1/3 of the season is done and we're only 1 1/2 games out of 4th place. Let's start climbing back in next week.

Rough game against PBJ (another team we've never beaten) this week. We ended up getting pushed off of Edgely 8 by another team that had the exact same permit that we have for the same field. So we took what was available, which was the crappy corner field we usually practice on that nobody ever plays games on. Because there's no side fences to stop overthrows on the baselines and the first base person is looking directly into the sun the whole game, which gave us (and them) some trouble. It was close early, 2-2 after 1 - but we gave up a couple of big homers again by some good hitters who could nail them right in the gaps between our outfielders. We also had the bases loaded three separate times and could only manage 2 runs total. But we had a few great pays in the field - Jim made a hell of a catch in right-center, backpedaling and reaching over his head. I took a relay throw from The Law after a monster shot into left field and threw a one-hopper straight at Tara who scooped it up and tagged out the batter at the plate trying to turn his triple into a homer. And Todd had a sweet 2-run homer, just beating the ball to the plate (it was dropped, anyway). However, statistically speaking, it was our worst batting game as we only hit .500. We held them in check the last 3 innings (allowing only 2 runs) but the damage was already done and we only managed 1 run ourselves over the same three.
